I was at a Beltane ritual at the weekend. Oh, you don’t do Beltane? Maypoles, hot female Morris dancers, a ritual led by a witch dressed as an Owl? You must not live in Stroud.

Anyway, no one was more delighted than me. Beltane (otherwise known as May Day, or if you’re a capitalist, the May Bank Holiday) marks the transition from Spring into Summer, and as a pure Spring/Summer angel it also marks the point in the year where I officially get my personality back.

Winter to me is about a protective routine, whether that’s to manage my dehydrated skin, layering Uniqlo heattech as armour against the cold, or the way I need to structure work to avoid letting the literal darkness take hold. It’s around May that I start to feel a little more puckish, more playful, which extends to the way I dress and put on makeup. Here are some recent experiments.

My first was in lip oil: shinier than a balm but not as sticky/faffy as a gloss. I’ve gone for this one in the evenings lately, low maintenance sexy. Allegedly it’s a cheek oil as well though I’m not sold on that, think makes me look a bit damp.
